The Brigade in Texas

Texas is four wedding markets with six hours between them.

An Austin Hill Country ranch, a Dallas ballroom, a Houston museum reception and a Marfa weekend half the guest list will not attempt. Real Texas weddings, filed with the vendor list and the budget attached.

$30,000

The 2026 statewide average, a little under the national figure. Austin and Dallas sit far above it, and the rest of the state well below.

Texas statewide average, 2026
$26,000 to $31,000
Austin and Dallas, premium venues
$50,000 and up
Smaller Texas cities
From about $25,000
National average, for comparison
$34,200 to $36,000

Texas is cheaper than its size suggests, mostly because venue supply is enormous and competition is real. The exceptions are Austin, where demand has outrun inventory, and the Hill Country, where a limited number of ranch venues price like a destination market because that is what they are.

Where people get married in Texas

Each of the four big metros supports a full vendor market and none of them share. The Hill Country between Austin and San Antonio is the state destination region and prices accordingly.

Austin

Hill Country ranches, downtown rooftops and the trendiest venue stock in the state, with prices that have climbed hard.

Dallas and Fort Worth

Ballrooms, estates and the largest capacity supply in Texas, with a deep and competitive vendor pool.

Houston

Museum venues, ballrooms and an unusually diverse catering market that handles large multi-day weddings well.

San Antonio

Riverwalk venues, missions and historic properties at a lower price floor than Austin an hour north.

The Hill Country

Fredericksburg, Dripping Springs and vineyard country. The destination market, booked from all four metros.

Marfa and West Texas

Desert light, small guest lists and a genuine seven-hour drive from anywhere. Worth it, if the invitation says so.

What planning here actually involves

Heat, storms and what ranch venues actually include.

Summer removes half the calendar

June through September regularly runs past 100 across most of the state. Outdoor weddings cluster into March to May and October to November, which is exactly why those dates cost more.

Spring storms are the trade-off

The pleasant months are also the severe weather months, particularly in north Texas. An outdoor spring ceremony needs a proper indoor alternative rather than a covered patio.

Hill Country venues are often raw land

Many ranch venues supply the site, the view and little else. Power, restrooms, climate control, tenting and shuttles from Austin are separate and significant costs.

The Texas vendor directory

Photographers, venues, florists and the people who keep the day running, filed by market so you are not scrolling past Marfa and West Texas listings when the wedding is in Austin. Every listing names what it costs and what it does not include.

Common questions

How much does a wedding cost in Texas?

Between about $26,000 and $31,000 statewide in 2026, under the national average. Austin and Dallas premium venues run $50,000 and up, while smaller Texas cities start near $25,000.

Is there a waiting period to marry in Texas?

Yes, 72 hours between collecting the license and the ceremony. It is waived by completing the Twogether in Texas premarital course, and for active-duty military.

How do we avoid the Texas waiting period?

Complete the state-approved Twogether in Texas course. It waives the 72 hours and cuts $60 off the license fee, which usually more than covers the cost of the course.

How long is a Texas marriage license valid?

Ninety days from issue. Both of you must apply in person with photo ID and Social Security numbers.

Why is Austin more expensive than the rest of Texas?

Demand has outrun venue supply there, and the Hill Country ranch venues nearby price as a destination market. The rest of the state has enough venue competition to keep prices moderate.
